Ronald Crane reports from Rene Road
Dominant throughout this match, it was only the heroic efforts of Gregg Lewis in goal for the Swifts that prevented The Robins ending with a cricket score. The home side could only manage two attempts on target, and those came in the dying minutes of the match.
Although never in danger, The Robins began slowly with a re-shuffled line-up as Dylon Bennett injured himself in the warm up, to be replaced by Ben Jones. Even so, it took just seven minutes for The Robins’ to open the scoring with Jones himself on target at a corner.
Lloyd cut a lone figure up front on his own for Swifts as Knowle had all the play and all the territory. For The Robins, the opposite number nine Odane Barnes was a constant threat. He proved to be a nightmare for the home side, although not as dominant in the air as usual. At the break The Robins were just the one goal in front; it ought to have been more, but stout defending and woeful shooting kept the score down to one.
Although Swifts, late on the field for the re-start, did try to up their game in the second period, it was to no avail. The Robins’ just stepped on the gas and went hunting for more goals.
It took ten minutes for George Seeley to double the score, and on the hour mark Tom Craine made it three. That it was not more was down to Gregg Lewis, a worthy man of the match.
With the final whistle, the away side had secured a comprehensive victory, with Cody Mullan, George Seeley, and Odane Barnes were the pick of a very good bunch.
