Knowle blown out of UCL Cup by Storm Boelo and 10-man Heanor Town
Match Report | Knowle 0-2 Heanor Town | United Counties League Cup, Second Round | 24/10/26
Knowle were blown out of the United Counties League Cup as 10-man Heanor Town battled to an emphatic 2-0 victory in a storm-ravaged Second Round tie.
On a day tempered by the unforgiving Storm Boelo, Knowle’s performance reflected the miserable conditions and did little to brighten the spirits of their hardy supporters who braved the driving rain and gusty winds in hope of watching their team build on Tuesday night’s encouraging win over Coton Green.
Lively winger Mason Tudgay created Heanor’s first and scored their second in a game perfectly summed up by Knowle skipper Jack Duggan’s attempted block ballooning over his own goalkeeper just after the half-hour mark.
The Robins were even given a helping hand seven minutes before half-time when Heanor midfielder Lewis Austin talked his way into a straight red card from referee Michael Dunkley.
But that did nothing to deter Heanor, currently 10th in the United Counties Premier North, and Tudgay finished an excellent team move with a powerful low drive past Matt Horton to make the game safe with 20 minutes to play.
The Robins tried in vain to make amends to the scoreline, Heanor skipper Sam Brown making a crucial block late on to prevent a grandstand finish, but it was all too little too late for Knowle against the 10-man Lions.
Knowle return to league action away at Godmanchester Rovers next weekend and three points would move them back into first place with two games in hand since current leaders Rugby Town are in FA Vase action.
Kick-off at the Peter Hodson Community Ground (PE29 2LQ) is at 3pm on Saturday, October 31.
