Knowle Forwards Destroy Lane Head

12th August 2023 - Lane Head 0-3 Knowle

Dave Sykes report from Bloxwich Town

Our longest away trip. M42 shut. Traffic was consequently heavy. It rained in torrents on the M6 so the journey took twice as long as usual! Not the best start to the match. But it was well worth it. We saw a really enjoyable game of football between two sets of players, managers and fans who had nothing but respect for each other.

You got the feeling today that the team were enjoying playing and were definitely blending. Our three strikers must have loved playing in that formation. After three minutes Dylan Bennett and George Seeley pressed together and won the ball back. George threaded Nathan Corry into space with an intricate piece of skill. Nathan gave the outstanding Jay Rendell a sumptuous ball to chase. Down to the by line he went, out pacing the defender and over came the ball for Owain Taylor to smash it in at the far post. Exquisite!

Lane Head couldn’t live with the pace of our forwards. Jay and Nathan in particular were on fire as they created four chances at least that Nathan and Owain very nearly scored from. The fifth chance Nathan bundled over the line to put us two up after 21 minutes. With our regular keeper ‘Jonno’ on holiday, we brought in Ryan Byfield from a Sunday league team. He entertained us all with a vintage display that we all enjoyed. Thanks Ryan. Back to our top class performance. Ben Jones and Lewis Clarke are working extremely well together in central defence so it was no surprise that the team kept a clean sheet. Just before half time Jay was through again and as he weaved his way to the by line Owain knew exactly where to head for. Over came the cross from Jay and Owain had an almost replica goal to celebrate.

The second half saw an amazing save from their keeper. Skipper George hit a free kick left footed at pace right into the angle of the goal. The finger tips flicked the ball over the bar spectacularly. George couldn’t believe it! The confidence flowed through the Knowle players but the chances were spurned. Matt and Clive are excellent managers and true to their word, they gave opportunities to give experience to a few of the talented youngsters who had made the trip over. It was also nice to see Jack Mullen get a run out in the side as the Robins went after more goals.

After that unfortunate first game of the season against Alcester, the Robins are definitely back on track as the singing in the changing rooms after the game signified.

Onwards and upwards Robins!
