Knowle Hit Six!

7th January 2023 - Knowle FC 6-0 Lane Head

Ronald Crane reports from The Draintech Community Ground

Knowle Joint Managers, Clive and Matthew Seeley made just one change to the team that did so well at Earlswood on Bank Holiday Monday, George Seeley returned from suspension to replace the unavailable Jack Mullen. Returning from injury, Lewis Rainey began on the bench. Right from the first whistle it was obvious that this was a mismatch. Lane Head did their best, and for that they deserve respect; although their heads did drop at the start of the second half, they never ceased to try and compete with their opponents. The gap in class was just too great. The Robins bossed this match from start to finish.

It was in the second minute of the match that it was sealed. A corner from the right was turned home by Vice-Captain Christian McArdle. The game was played mostly in the visitors’ half of the park, and they never managed a shot of any kind for the whole ninety-five minutes. In contrast, Knowle hit the target nineteen times, six of which were goals. Having said that Lane Head goalkeeper, Chris Adamson gave a heroic display, particularly in the last twenty minutes, when he pulled off a series of spectacular saves that kept the score, more or less, respectable.

Controlling the midfield was key to this result. The Robins duo of Bennett and Ricketts had the freedom of Hampton Road. With other team-mates enjoying similar freedom it was a rout. Charlie Morris, the effervescent Kartel O’Neil Martin and George Seeley each scored, and Jacob Walton added two more to make it six.

The Robins will face stiffer opposition that this next Saturday away at Fairfield Villa, the more so since their manager watched this game. One wonders what that will mean for Villa, and indeed for The Robins?

Knowle: Johnson; Jones (Rainey); Seymour; Clarke (Barrett); McArdle [2]; Bennett; Morris [53]; Ricketts (Bailey); Corry (Walton [82 & 90+1]); Seeley [25]; O’Neil Martin [61] Subs not used: Joe Sinton.
