Knowle skipper George Seeley issues Anton Powell injury update after surprise half-time withdrawal

Skipper George Seeley informed Club Reporter George Revell of a slight injury concern pitchside at The Robins’ Nest…

George Seeley says a clash of heads was the reason behind Anton Powell’s surprise half-time withdrawal after he scored his first goal in Robins colours as Knowle cruised to a magnificent 7-0 rout of FC Stratford on the season’s opening weekend.

Powell was replaced by newbie Seb Pearsall for the second half after powering Knowle into a 12th-minute lead with a peach of a left-footed strike from 18 yards out.

The left-back played a great half of football in his brand-new white boots but a clash of heads left joint-managers Matt and Clive Seeley no choice but to bring him off as a precaution.

“Yeah, I think he’s picked up a bit of a head injury - he’s had a clash and has got some ice,” skipper Seeley told Club Reporter George Revell pitchside when asked if Powell picked up a knock in the first half.

There’s never going to be anything conclusive about timescales of an injury immediately after a match, but it isn’t believed to be too bad and Seeley was a keen admirer of Powell’s performance when he was on the pitch.

Primarily a defensively minded left-back, Powell had never scored nor provided an assist since joining in the summer of 2024 but did both in one go against Stratford.

“He was unbelievable,” Seeley said. “He doesn’t score too many, but he had his new white boots on today so they must have helped. He scored a lovely left-footer and then got a great assist.”

Second in the league table owing to Atherstone Town’s 7-0 demolition of Shirley-based Highgate United, Knowle are next in action on Saturday, August 1 as they visit Northampton Sileby Rangers for their first away game in Step Five, before hosting Coventry Sphinx the following Tuesday at 7:45pm.
