Matt and George Seeley hail 'phenomenal' Ethan Green after dramatic Knowle win at Rugby Town

Ethan Green has been a mainstay in Knowle's defence since arriving from Romulus in May

Joint-managers Matt and Clive Seeley dedicated their post-match debrief to Ethan Green following his man of the match performance during Knowle’s dramatic 2-1 victory at Rugby Town on Saturday afternoon.

The Robins have only conceded once in their five league matches so far this season - a header from a set piece by Rugby skipper Jake Wormleighton which Talib Copeland really should have prevented - and their defence have been second to none with Green at its heart.

Green only joined Knowle this summer from Romulus, an established side in Step Five, but has been ever-present at the back since the start of pre-season.

And Matt Seeley gave Green a special mention in the dressing room for a performance that he couldn’t speak highly enough of.

“Ethan Green was today’s man of the match by a standout mile,” said Seeley. “The kid was just phenomenal. He blocks everything.

“He passed the ball through the lines really well and he won all of his headers. He marshalled a very, very good number nine (Rivel Mardenborough), with Duggan who was also outstanding by the way, but Ethan Green - man of the match by a country mile.”

And the dressing room debrief wasn’t lost on George Seeley either.

The 28-year-old midfielder, now in his 11th season at Knowle with over 250 appearances for the club, also spoke extremely highly of the defender.

“I thought Ethan Green was unbelievable today and has been all season,” he said, when asked about the defence as a whole.

“He made some really good last-ditch tackles, especially when we were under the cosh, and he won some very big headers. He’s a great signing for us.”
