7th October 2023: Knowle 7-0 Feckenham FC

The gulf between MFL Divisions Three and Two was laid bare in this match. Feckenham are third in Division Three, but were no match for a Knowle side who ran rampant. Fitter, tactically more aware, quicker thinking, and with a higher level of skill, the home side were superior in every respect.

Having said that it could all have been so different but for two incidents in the first half of this one-sided affair. As early as the second minute Rob Shaw had to make a last-ditch tackle deep in the Knowle Area. There was no room for error. Any error would have resulted in a penalty. As it was the defender’s timing and accuracy was perfect, and he thwarted a goal attempt.

The second was in the 18th minute when an error in mid-field allowed Feckenham to progress. Bowen’s fierce shot from the right-hand side of the Area needed a top notch save from Craig Johnson in the Knowle goal. Had either of these efforts been successful, matters could have been different; perhaps not the result, but certainly the scoreline.

Those two forays were to be Feckenham’s only meaningful attempts on goal. As early as the 7th minute Jack Mullen had put the home side ahead when he headed home a Dylon Bennett corner. Jay Rendell doubled the lead on the half-hour mark, and Nathan Corry made it three and beyond doubt seven minutes from the break.

It was no surprise that The Robins began the second-half in an uncertain way. Realising this, the home bench made five substitutions around the hour mark. These injected renewed energy into Knowle’s play and four more goals were the result. George Seeley grabbed a second-half hat-trick, and Tom Craine secured the goal he deserved right on full time.

Speaking with Clive Seeley afterwards he said he was disappointed that his charges missed a number of chances. But overall, he was full of satisfaction at the result.
