COMFORTABLE WIN ON THE ROAD

21st August 2021 - Redditch Borough 1-5 Knowle FC

Ronald Crane Reports from Cherry Tree Walk

Matches between these two sides are never dull. So said Clive Seeley, Knowle Manager, prior to kick off. He was not wrong. This match was never dull, or boring. There were flashes of real quality from the Robins. The home side did not really make headway until it was all but over.

Relying on the long ball in the channels, or through the middle, Borough had little joy until the final minutes when a loss of concentration let in Ruppenthal to score a consolation goal.

In contrast the Robins played the ball through mid-field with good passing movements. As early as the tenth minute George Seeley got the final touch to put the visitors in the lead. Five minutes later it was two when Nathan Corry hit a beauty from thirty-five yards.

With Knowle well on top, Borough’s Garvey was very lucky not to see red, or even yellow after a nasty tackle. Referee Pimley deemed a lecture sufficient. Four minutes later the player was booked for another nasty challenge. He was to commit a third after the break and was sent for an early shower. His absence may have inflated the margin of victory, but not the result.

The final fifteen minutes of the first half were Borough’s best. Yet the Robins held firm.

Fourteen minutes into the second half George Seeley headed home a Hague cross, and three minutes after that George Curry took advantage of a great Knowle move to make it four with his left foot.

Deep into added time, Jay Payne scored the fifth after yet another great Knowle move through the mid-field.

This was a well worked win against a hardworking Borough side that relied too much on the long ball. It is now three wins from three matches with twelve goals scored and four conceded for the Robins. Not a bad start to the season. However, confidence is all well and good, but over-confidence leads to complacency. There will be no room for that on Bank Holiday Monday when Knowle welcome Alcester Town to Hampton Road.

Knowle: Tregartha; Dodd (Kavanagh); Payne [93]; Regan; Fox; McAardle; Corry [15] (Galloway); Cullen; Hague; Seeley [10][59] (Griffiths); Curry [62]. Subs not used: Ormston.

Next Match: Knowle FC v Alcester Town FC; Monday 30th August 2021: KO 3pm, at The Draintech Community Ground, B93 0NX. £3 for spectators, £2 concessions.
