THE ROBINS HIT FOUR

14th August 2021 - Knowle FC 4-1 Coventry Alvis

Ronald Crane Reports from the Draintech Community Ground

With George Curry and Lewis Cosgrove carrying knocks from last Saturday, Clive Seeley brought in the two Lukes to the starting line up, Dodd and Fox. Alvis were full of confidence after putting four past Earlswood Town at the Pavilions. That confidence took a knock on two minutes when, after a Knowle Free Kick, the ball was sent forward for Hague to score. The Knowle number nine hit the post a minute later.

With Hague on fire, he beat the off-side; but was forced wide, and his shot from a tight angle missed the target. The lads in blue were finding defence difficult. Too often their defenders were found wanting for pace and were rather square. The Robins surged forward and it was no surprise when Jay Payne hit the net from thirty yards with a real pile-driver.

The home side continued to dominate until the final fifteen minutes of the first-half when their visitors had their best spell. Knowle were saved by the Assistant Referee flagging for off-side on two or three occasions. The players turned round with the home side two nil to the good. If anything the score-line did not reflect Knowle’s dominance.

The second-half was a more muted affair, and rather petered as a contest. True, it took the Robins just eleven second-half minutes to add a third when, following really good inter-play on the edge and in the Alvis area, Nathan Corry slotted home. He grabbed a second when the Alvis defence were caught all at sea and the number ten took full advantage.

Late on, the impressive Joe Blowers scored a consolation goal for the away team. By then, the result was way beyond the visitors. The Robins could have scored many more, had their shooting not been so wayward.

At the final whistle, the Robins were satisfied with a good afternoon’s work, and three points in the bag.

Knowle FC: Tregartha; Wood; Payne [9] (Ormistom); Fox; Delaney; McArdle; Cullen; Regan (Galloway); Hague [2] (Paterson); Corry [56][68]; Seeley. Subs not used: Arthur & Griffiths.
