Knowle 'delighted' with 'great performance' in Boldmere win as George Seeley says 'bring it on' before Solihull Moors clash
George Revell caught up with George Seeley pitchside at the Amber Arena following Knowle's 4-0 win over Boldmere in pre-season
George Seeley said he was 'delighted' by Knowle's 'great performance' in their opening pre-season friendly at Boldmere St. Michaels on Thursday night.
It felt as though the odds were stacked against Knowle before kick-off - but an impressive double from prolific scorer Talib Copeland, alongside further goals from Odane Barnes and Zak Parsons, ensured Knowle left Sutton Coldfield with a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Step 4 side Boldmere on a night where just about everything went exactly how they wanted it to.
The Robins first reported to pre-season training two weeks ago and have been made to work ever since. Skipper Seeley emphasised the effect that the squad's fitness had on their performance when speaking immediately after the game.
"We've worked hard over the last couple of weeks and we're delighted with the performance," he said pitchside at the Amber Arena. "We were the better team throughout the game and I think our fitness proved [decisive] - running up those hills in training last Saturday paid dividends!
"I thought we pressed really well. Not too defensive, very organised but aggressive. We need fit lads to play the way we do and we showed tonight that we've got that. Overall, it was a great performance."
Seeley didn't hide his excitement about the opportunity for Knowle to test themselves against ambitious and professional opposition when National League side Solihull Moors visit the Robins' Nest on Tuesday.
Moors came agonisingly close to the EFL when they took Bromley all the way to penalties in the play-off final after an enthralling 2-2 draw at Wembley Stadium in 2024 - and the club are currently offering a deal allowing supporters a free season ticket if they are promoted to League Two within three years - so Chris Millington's side will be no slouches in B93.
Seeley is adamant Knowle will be able to learn a lot from them.
He said: "It's going to be exciting having a professional outfit at the Robins' Nest, but it's going to be a really tough test - they are full-time professional footballers with a lot of quality. You've probably watched them on the TV!
"It will be good to have a big crowd there. It's a big occasion - the first time we've ever played a professional side - so bring it on!"
Seeley, who is entering his 11th season at the club, continued to stress: "We'll have a lot of lessons to learn from a professional side, I'm sure."
