Knowle's Winning Run Ends

g g • April 27, 2023

22nd April  2023 - Knowle FC 0-1 Kenilworth Sporting

Ronald Crane reports from The Draintech Community Ground.

After the build up for this match, indeed of the fixtures for Saturday where six of the top seven clubs in Division Two played each other, this encounter was a deep disappointment. At times the match descended into farce. Time and again both sides were unable to string passes together. Any neutral finding themselves inside the Draintech Community Stadium last Saturday would be hard pushed to believe that the sides on display were two of the best in the division.

Perhaps there was just too much at stake. Maybe too many games have had to be played in a short time. Whatever the reason, this was not a good advert for the Midland Football League. True: there was a great deal of striving, but little real skill, or attractive football.

How different from the matches those of us who support The Robins, have witnessed in recent weeks. The only goal of the game was itself error strewn. The Robins were in action in the Sporting Area. Appeals for a penalty were turned down. The play quickly moved into the Robins’ territory for Low to score.

If the first-half had been more, or less, dominated by the Robins. It was the sending off of Kyle Jaynes two minutes into the second-half, that sparked the visitors to up their game. Playing for all but two minuets of the second period with ten men, turned out to be in Sporting’s favour. In the end, they won because they wanted it just that bit more than the Robins.

The long winning run may have ended for Then Robins, but the divisional championship is still in their own hands. Knowle can do it. Three of their five remaining matches are at home. They can make up the points difference.
