Robins Edge It At Bolehall

g g • April 19, 2023

18th  April  2023 - Bolehall Swifts 1-2 Knowle FC

Ronald Crane reports from Rene Road.

This was an absorbing match to watch. Two sides prepared to play football in the face of a high wind. Physical, well organized, skilful, yet with too many mistakes to make it a classic.

After the opening exchanges, it became apparent that Knowle were controlling the game, with Swifts content to play on the break. Although The Robins had by far the greater share of possession and territory, Swifts were always dangerous on the break. It was on one such break that had Craig Johnson in the Knowle goal beaten by an Adam’s shot from twelve yards. By then both sides had hit the bar.

If that makes the match sound a real end to end thriller, it was not like that at all. The Robins were in control. But without any end product until captain George Seeley took a Free Kick some nineteen yards out and in a central position. He defeated Doyle in goal for Swifts all ends up, to equal the score.

Whatever the Seeleys –Clive and Matthew – said at half-time more than did the trick. For the second period The Robins were in total ascendancy, the only disappointment was that they managed just one more goal, a twenty-yard pile driver from Kartel O’Neil-Martin.
Instead of just seeing the game out, the Robins continued to seek that third goal. It could have cost them dear.

For their part Swifts gave a good account of themselves. Well organised with a solid defence, they made matters hard for Knowle. However, in the end the boys from Hampton Road were just too savvy.

Knowle’s winning run continues. On Saturday, they entertain Kenilworth Sporting at The Draintech Community Ground. Kick off is at 3pm.

Knowle FC: Johnson; Jones (Blythe); Seymour; L Clarke; McArdle; Bennett (Ricketts); Morris (Corry); Staley; Mullen; G Seeley [33]; O’Neil-Martin [74]. Subs not used: Walton & Gasiewski.
