8th March 2025: Central Ajax 1-1 Knowle FC

Ronald Crane reports from The Home Guard Club

For the second week running The Robins only have themselves to blame for this loss of two valuable points. On a heavy, bumpy and difficult pitch, only in the final twenty minutes of the match did they look anything like The Robins we know and love.

Central Ajax took the match by the scruff of the neck and pressed home their advantage. On nine minutes, slack marking on The Robins’ right allowed Ross Bennett far too much space. He was able to cut inside, and score from nineteen yards. He took his chance supremely well, but should never had had the space in which to do so. It would prove to be decisive, as it was the only time in the whole match that the home side managed to get a shot on target.

Gradually, The Robins took control of the first half, but without playing the brand of football for which they have become known this season. The men in blue could only manage one shot on target in the first period. Nathan Corry turning home a corner two minutes into added time prior to the break.

The second half was all Knowle, yet only when the final whistle drew near did they really turn the screw. The best chance fell to substitute Jay Rendell. Odane Barnes sent over a peach of a cross form the right, Jay was in a perfect position four yards out, and with an open goal, he hit the bar!

Ajax players put their bodies on the line to block and clear shots, but offered precious little up front, relying on the break.

Central Ajax had one shot on target that produced one goal. Knowle had ten shots on target and could only manage one goal.
